LMIA-exempt work permits

Work permits obtained pursuant to Foreign Trade Agreements (NAFTA, CETA, and CCFTA).

Depending on the FTA, there is a list of approximately 60 occupations that qualify for a facilitated work permit for professionals. To be eligible for a professional work permit under one of the above agreements, the individual usually must either have a diploma or work experience in the occupation or both (depending on the field of specialization).

Work Without a Work Permit

Foreign nationals may perform work in Canada without a work permit if they are one of the following:

Please note that an individual who is eligible to work without a work permit may still require a Temporary Resident Visa to enter Canada depending on his country of citizenship.
